Title: Encouraging Youth to choose Agriculture: The Key to a Sustainable Food System!
ENCOURAGING YOUTH TO CHOOSE AGRICULTURE - THE KEY TO A SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEM
The Empower Youth4Food campaign, supported by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency in coordination with the Southeast Asia regional office of Nuffic (the Dutch organization for internationalization in education), helps to change perceptions by providing hands-on work experience opportunities in the agricultural sector for young people aged 16-35.
Inspired by the Netherlands—one of the countries with a developed agricultural industry that applies high technology such as hydroponics and drones—the campaign aims for the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal of "Zero Hunger" by empowering, inspiring, and connecting Southeast Asian youth to participate in a sustainable food system.
The campaign includes key building blocks: Events, Success Stories, Changemaker Challenges, and Navigating Career Path. Among that, the Success Stories session share the experiences of Vietnamese agricultural experts, especially those who have studied in the Netherlands.
Meanwhile, the Changemaker Challenge gathers over 200 students and 50 young professionals from Southeast Asia to present solutions for real-world issues in the agricultural sector. Students have the opportunity to develop initiatives and solutions for the practical problems that agricultural companies are facing and are provided with funding to implement their ideas.
Additionally, the campaign connects Vietnamese students and young professionals with career opportunities through collaborations with members of the Dutch Business Association in Vietnam, featuring lectures, company tours, and internship programs.
This helps young people gain clarity and shift their perspectives as Vietnam needs to innovate its agricultural model in the face of climate change challenges. It also addresses the aging agricultural workforce, aiming to ensure national food self-sufficiency and meet the growing demand for food.”
